A three-setter that went down to the wire at first doubles proved the difference as the Huntington North High School girls' varsity tennis team lost to visiting Peru, 2-3, on Tuesday, April 15, in its season-opener.
The duo of junior Ana Eckert and sophomore Emily Karst took the first set, 6-2, lost the second, 5-7, then were topped in the third 4-6 by Kyle Edcerley and Breanna Manriquez in what proved to be the decisive match as the teams halved the others in two sets.
Juniors Kylie Frederick at first singles and Emily Eherenman at third singles got the HNHS wins. Frederick topped Madison Deniston, 6-2, 6-1, and Eherenman defeated Anna Bowyer, 6-4, 6-1.
Senior Casey Richman lost at second singles, 5-7, 0-6, to Adri Ward, and the second doubles team of Sarah Fryman and Alisha Leffler took a 4-6, 1-6 loss to Grace Comerford and Kaylee Hileman.
