Up and down day for HU diamond men in split with Taylor

The Huntington University baseball team blew out host Taylor, 13-3, before suffering a blowout themselves, 14-5, to split a doubleheader with the Trojans on Saturday, April 12.

The Foresters, 15-19 overall, 9-11 in the Crossroads League, banged out 21 hits in the first game, building a 12-0 lead through the first five innings. Taylor got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and then a solo tally by Huntington in the seventh brought the lopsided affair to a close.

Shea Beauchamp led the Foresters with three hits and four runs batted in. Dylan Henricks produced four base pokes, TJ Lindstrand supplied three and both finished with two RBI.

Michael Crowley added three hits and Avery Sneed, Jared Green and Austin Drummond each had a pair.

Brock Gower held the Trojans to three hits and as many runs in 6.2 innings to record the win. The sophomore hurler struck out six, walked four, and improves to 2-2.

Taylor put up the big offensive numbers in the second game, cracking 20 hits. The Trojans went up 5-0 after the first inning. Huntington got on the board with a run in the third, but the hosts quickly dispelled any notion of a comeback with eight runs to bury the Foresters in a 13-1 hole. Coach Mike Frame's squad plated four runners in the fourth before a Taylor solo tally in the sixth concluded the offensive fireworks.

Blake Hohlbein took the loss for Huntington, surrendering 11 base pokes and nine earned runs in 2.1 innings.

Crowley was the Foresters' lone bright spot on offense. The freshman plated two runners on three more hits.

Austin York led the Trojans with three hits and as many RBI. Brian Moore also drove home a trio of runs for the hosts, who run their record to 23-15 overall, 15-5 in conference.

Ryan Masters got the win for Taylor, yielding six hits and five earned runs in four frames.
