HNHS trackboys swamp Columbia City in opener

Winning 12 of 15 events, the Huntington North High School boys' track team handily topped visiting Columbia City, 83-47, on Thursday, April 10.

Jake Shaw won both sprints and ran on two winning relay teams to lead the Vikings. He won the 100-meter dash in :11.3 and captured the 200-meter dash in :23.7, and ran legs on both the victorious 400-meter relay and the 1,600-meter relay teams.

Charlie Mettler won the 800-meter run in 2:06.4 and Andrew Sizemore took the 300-meter hurdles in :45.6 for the remaining individual track wins for HNHS.

The Vikings won all five field events. Houston Lehman won the high jump at 5-10, Adam Woods took the pole vault at 11-6, Drew Fawcett won the long jump at 20-05.50, Jared Coolman took the shot put with a throw of 42-09.75 and Colt Ropp won the discus at 132-08.

Sizemore, Fawcett and Lehman joined Shaw on the winning 400 relay team, which clocked in at :46.2. Isaac Smith, Sizemore and Jordan Utter were the other members of the winning 1,600 team, which won in 3:44.1.

The 3,200-meter relay winner was comprised of Mettler, Luke Doughty, Smith and Utter, and crossed the line in 8:36.7.

Fawcett added to his day with second in the 200, Utter was runner-up in the 400-meter dash, Doughty got second in the 800 and Matt DeWitt was number two in the 1,600-meter run. Woods took the runner-up spot in the high jump, Lucas Long was second in the long jump and Ropp was runner-up in the shot.

Third place points were earned by Logan Worsham in the 1,600 and Dillon Valenti in the 3,200-meter run.
