Forester basketball squad opens season with big win over IIT

The Huntington University men's basketball team defeated visiting Indiana Institute of Technology 79-55 in its season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Huntington and IIT were neck and neck during the first half, with the lead going back and forth between the two teams before a 16-4 burst, led by Kellen Zawadzki, helped put the Foresters up 35-21 at the half.

The Foresters continued to build their lead until the end of the game, with the biggest gap being 72-41 with 5:49 left in the game. Huntington had only 10 turnovers, and they out-rebounded IIT 44-32.

Zawadzki, a junior guard, led HU with 17 points. Kevin Kyle had 16, Luke Smith had 13 and Tyler Shively netted 11.

Shively also had seven assists and seven rebounds as the junior guard from Columbia City displayed an all-around game. Smith added six assists.

The Foresters shot an even 50 percent from the field, converting 31 of 62 shots.
