Lady Eagles third at Indy Shootout

The Huntington Lady Eagles went 3-1 at the annual Indy Shootout to claim the third place trophy on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Catherine Weaver hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the fourth game to give Huntington, 15-4, a 59-57 win in the consolation match against Evangel Family Christian Academy, from Montgomery, AL.

Weaver and Abby Ballinger each scored 25 points to lead Huntington in its final game, which was rematch of the first game, won by Huntington, 48-34.

The Lady Eagles were up by three points with 10 seconds to go when EFCA hit a long three to tie it. Weaver got fouled on a drive to the three point line and nailed the winning points.

"It was a long day and our two seniors put the team on their backs all day, noted Huntington Head Coach Mark Shultz. "Everybody was thrilled that we didn't have to go into overtime, as there was nothing left in the tanks today."

The Lady Eagles, 15-4, also won game three, against the Tippecanoe Tornadoes, from
West Lafayette, 51-48.

Ballinger and Weaver each scored 15 points to pace the locals, who also got 10 points from Erin Sickafoose and nine from Kelli Neff.

Huntington lost its second contest of the day, 44-34, to the Mishawaka Wildcats.

The Wildcats blitzed the Lady Eagles 24-7 in the first quarter of their game to take an insurmountable lead and give Huntington two of its four losses on the year.

Weaver scored 15 points and Ballinger added 10.

Weaver had 24 points and Ballinger and Sickafoose each scored eight in the opening win.
