Vikings' strong trio earns boys' cross country team berth at state next week

The Huntington North High School boys' cross country team placed three runners in the top 15 to take second place at the New Haven semi-state on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, and earn a trip to next week's state meet.

Senior Ross Ochs took third place overall in a time of 16:25.71 to lead HNHS to the runner-up score of 125 points. Senior Josh Graham finished sixth among team competitors in 16:34.45, senior Austin Roberts took 10th in 16:45.85, junior Jake Crosley finished 45th in 17:33.29 and freshman Cordell Lewis placed 61st in 17:48.29.
Non-scorers included sophomore Darius Vogleman, who finished 82nd in 18:02.52; and senior Nick Yarger, who took 116th in 18:52.59.

Concord took the team title with a final score of 103, and James Martin, and junior from Carroll, won the individual race in 15:55.54.

The top six teams from semi-state advanced to the state competition next week. In addition to Concord and Huntington North, Bishop Dwenger placed third with 128 points, South Bend Saint Joseph was fourth with 131 points, Snider was fifth with 178 and Pendleton Heights got the final state berth with 212 points.

The state meet will be held next Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Wabash Valley Sports Complex in Terre Haute.
