HNHS swimboys win easily over Tipp Valley

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity swim team won comfortably over host Tippecanoe Valley, 99-62, on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Walter Hacker led the Vikings with a pair of first place finishes. The junior took the 200-yard individual medley in 2:22.12 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:44.52.

Hacker also had a hand in two relay victories. He teamed with freshman Cody Barton and juniors Nathan Lundy and Josh Young to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.09 and then paired with sophomore Zane Cozad, freshman Jacob Koons and Barton to take the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:06.40.

Individually, Cozad topped the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.09 and was runner-up in the 100 free in 1:01.53. Young was a gold finisher in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in :25.75, and a silver finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:16.17. Edging Young in the 100 breaststroke was Barton, who finished in 1:14.71. Barton also achieved runner-up status in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:11.94.

Lundy's first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:12.18 rounded out the squad's individual wins, while Cozad, Young and Lundy's participation in the 200-yard freestyle relay with freshman Kevin King completed its silver finishes. The quartet completed the race in 1:50.22.
