Big second day has HU women bowlers 14th at Match Games

The Huntington University women's bowling team finished 14th in the National Collegiate Team Match Games (Tier I) in Illinois over Nov. 29 and 30.

After day one of regular team games, the Foresters were 6-12 and sitting in 20th place, but Saturday was a completely different story as Coach Jim Bischoff's team jumped six places to climb to 14th out of 26 teams with 9,603 pins by day's end.

It was strong showing for Huntington as they went 12-3 in Baker play, including beating No. 4 Lindenwood, No. 13 St. Ambrose and No. 20 Newman. The tournament included nine nationally ranked teams, six of which were ranked in the top 10.

Shelby New paced the Foresters with a six-game average of 175.2 to finish 46th out of 183 bowlers. Ayla Yeiter finished 76th by posting a five-game average of 176.4. Casandra Griffith, with a five-game average of 172.0, and Emily O'Leary, with a five-game average of 171.2, finished 82nd and 83rd, respectively.

Other bowlers for Huntington included Brooke Ewing, with a four-game average of 169.5, Leigha Lindsey, with a two-game average of 165.0, Emerald Leong, with a two-game average of 154.0 and Caitlin Pidgeon, with one game of 122.
