Huntington University sophomore Amelia Recker and senior Shane Merryman swept the conference basketball awards this week as both were named Crossroads League Player of the Week based on their performances last week.
Recker started off the week with a career performance of 28 points and 13 rebounds, her third double-double of the season, in HU's 79-65 win over Indiana Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Against ninth-ranked St. Xavier on Friday, Nov. 22, the 5-9 forward tossed in 14 points and had six rebounds and two assists in a 77-70 loss. She finished off the week by netting 23 points to go along with nine rebounds, four steals and three assists in the Foresters' 121-101 victory over Olivet Nazarene.
For the week, Recker averaged 21.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Among her NAIA Division II peers, she currently ranks 42nd in field goal percentage (.536), 46th in points per game (17.75) and 47th in rebounds per game (8.25).
Merryman made sure his team remained unblemished Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23, by scoring 11 points in each half to finish with a game-high 22 points in Huntington's 66-53 road win over No. 25 Rochester College. He also ripped down 13 boards, five of which were offensive, and handed out two assists.
The 6-5 forward has garnered plenty of national attention as he currently holds seven NAIA Division II rankings, with the most notable including 13th in field goal percentage (.663), 13th in points per game (23.125) and 16th in rebounds per game (9.375). To date, Merryman has scored 1,519 points, which places him 21st on Huntington's all-time scoring list.
