6 HNHS grapplers win weight classes at Warsaw Invitational

Six members of the Huntington North High School varsity wrestling team won their weight class in the team's first action of the season at the Warsaw Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Five of the Vikings' champions compiled 3-0 records on the day, with senior Kyle Jolas, at 160 pounds, leading the way with three pins.
Juniors Tanner Shipley, at 132, Corbin Clarke, at 195, and Layne Emery, at 220, each went undefeated on the strength of two falls and one decision.
Junior Shawn Renz, at heavyweight, achieved his perfect register with a pin, a decision and a forfeit.
Bailey Shockome, at 145, put together a 2-1 record to round out the squad's champs. The sophomore's wins came via fall and decision.
Huntington North went 2-1 as a team. After getting edged by Homestead, 35-33, in the first match, the Vikings finished with victories over Eastside, 54-24, and host Warsaw, 45-18.
Also wrestling for Coach Kyle Wood's squad were juniors Alex Beal, at 138, and Kodey Randle, at 152, who each picked up a pin and a decision to go 2-1.
Freshman Evan Wall, at 113, achieved a 2-1 mark with a decision and a forfeit.
Senior Marc Howell, at 170, went 1-1, winning via decision.
Freshmen Zack Johnson, at 106, and Jacob Howell, at 120, finished 1-2. Johnson got into the win column with a forfeit and Howell got there with a decision.
Sophomore Chandler Updike, at 182, went 0-3 to complete the team.
