Schenkel leads Lady Vikes to slim swim win over Norwell

Junior Katie Schenkel won two individual races and was part of a winning relay team to pace the Huntington North High school girls' swim team to an 87-83 win over host Norwell on Thursday, Nov. 21.
Schenkel captured the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke and was part of the victorious 200-yard medley relay to help the Lady Vikes even their record at 1-1 on the season. The junior went 6:07.88 to capture the freestyle, then came back with a 1:20.99 in the breaststroke to lead HNHS to a 1-2 finish, with teammate Alexis Miller taking runner-up.
Schenkel teamed with Cassy Lange, Emma Helmich and Maggie Warpup to win the medley relay.
Lange and Warpup also got individual wins as well. Lange, a senior, took the 50-yard freestyle in :27.75, and Warpup, a sophomore, won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:13.22.
The Lady Vikes also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:59.42, with Warpup, Miller, Laura Speziali and Helmich teaming for that win.
Helmich and Alexandra Short took second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle, and Warpup and Miller took the same placings, respectively, in the 200-yard invidividual medley. Helmich added a third in the 100-yard freestyle, Clark got third place points in the 500 free and Lange was third in the 100-yard backstroke.
