Big fourth quarter nets Lady Eagles opening win

The Huntington Lady Eagles won their opening game of the season with a 47-32 decision over the host Fort Wayne Hurricanes on Friday, Nov. 15.

The game was close for three quarters before Huntington outscored the Hurricanes 16-3 in the final frame.

The Lady Eagles were led by senior Catherine Weaver with 28 points. She also paced the team with seven rebounds, four blocks and four assists.

Sophomore Erin Sickafoose had 11 points and senior Abby Ballinger chipped in six and grabbed as many steals to record the team-high in the theft category.

Huntington led by only two after three quarters after letting a 12-point lead get away.

"We got away from our offense and had some players out of our offensive set and it cost us in the third quarter," said Assistant Coach Kolby Shultz. "We corrected that in the fourth and went on a 16-3 run to seal the game."

The Lady Eagles return five players from last year's 15-7 squad that includes their three leading scorers, Weaver, Ballinger and Sickafoose. Suzanne Sickafoose and Alyssa Liefers also return. New players this year are Lilly Sabinski, Emily Davis, Kelli Neff and Rebecca Smith.
