Foresters spikers wrap up season with split

The Huntington University volleyball team wrapped up its season Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Lourdes University Tri-Match where it went 1-1 to finish the year with an overall record of 8-23.

The Foresters made quick work of Calumet College of St. Joe, beating the Crimson Wave in straight sets, 25-13, 25-20, 25-14.

Abbey Keister led a balanced attack with 11 kills. Heather Medich added 10 kills while Hillary Pulse tallied seven. Jensen Carnahan orchestrated it all by dishing out 31 assists. Defensively, Medich and Katie DePew posted 10 digs apiece.

Later that day, Huntington was on the other end of an 0-3 match against Lourdes as the fell to the Gray Wolves, 20-25, 20-25, 22-25.

Statistically, the Foresters kept things close in nearly every category but were never able to get over the hump. Lourdes cranked out 10.5 team blocks to Huntington's ten and outhit their visitors 35-29.

Audrey Mallers and Melissa Grossman paced the team with eight and seven kills, respectively. Pulse came up big at the net defensively to finish with six blocks while Keister added four. Carnahan handed out 25 assists. Codie Morey registered 13 digs.

Huntington just missed a spot in the league tourney. The Foresters finished Crossroads League play in a tie with Goshen for eighth place. They split their two matches head-to-head but since the Maple Leafs won five sets to HU's four, Goshen received the eight seed and will advance to the league tournament.
