HU spikers comeback attempt falls short
Thursday, September 26, 2013 3:44 PM
A comeback attempt against visiting Bethel College fell short for the Huntington University volleyball team as it suffered a 2-3 defeat on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
The Pilots took the first two sets by matching scores of 25-23. Facing their eighth sweep of the season, the Foresters dug deep and pulled out a 25-22 win. They continued to roll after that, topping the Pilots 28-26 to force a decisive fifth set.
That's when Huntington's luck ran out, however, as it fell 16-18 to Bethel to drop to 3-13, 2-5 in the Crossroads League.
Melissa Grossman's 17 kills were a personal season high for the Foresters while Jensen Carnahan's 43 assists matched her season's best.
It was the same story defensively, where Codie Morey's 26 digs qualified for a season high as well.
The Pilots were just too much to handle, however. Bethel generated 66 kills to Huntington's 49 and 65 assists to their 48 to improve to 13-5, 8-1 in conference play.
