HU men's tennis skips by Marian

The Huntington University men's tennis team edged visiting Marian University, 5-4, on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The Foresters, 8-2, 6-1 in the Crossroads League, spread their wins out, with two coming in doubles play and three in singles action.

Vlad Khudziy and Jose Hungria teamed at first doubles to beat Jason Denton and Marty Pochop, 8-6, while Joseph Straznicky and Diego Inurritegui won by the same score over Mitchell Trammel and Danny Albert at second doubles.

Straznicky, at second singles, had the pivotal win in singles play, emerging from a three-set battle with Denton a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victor. Khudziy had an easier go of it at first singles, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Albert. At fourth singles, Inurritegui won with ease over Pochop, 6-1, 6-2, to round out the team's wins.

Hungria, at third singles, lost to Jack Hiatt, 4-6, 0-6, Joe Brenneman fell to Trammel at fifth singles, 0-6, 1-6, and Zakk Sparks was downed by Ryan Heuer at sixth singles, 2-6, 2-6.

Huntington's lone blemish in doubles play came when Sparks and Brenneman were defeated by Taylor Kinney and Nick Batuello, 4-8.
