Lady Eagles claim state homeschool volleyball championship

The Huntington Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team became the Indiana State Homeschool champions over Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10, sweeping the competition and defeating the Goshen Blue Blazers in the final round on Saturday in three sets, with scores of 25-21, 20-25, 15-13 at Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne.

The Lady Eagles were seeded No. 2 entering the tournament on Friday, and Goshen was seeded No. 1. Huntington defeated the Fort Wayne Angels, the Wabash Valley Warriors, the Plymouth Lady Crusaders, the Indy Silver Lightning and the Cornerstone Warriors to have a bye in the Sweet Sixteen and an automatic slot in the Elite Eight.

The Lady Eagles beat the W.A.C.H.E. Lady Warriors of Bluffton in two sets, with scores of 25-22, 25-22, and moved on to the Final Four to defeat the Fort Wayne Angels in two sets, with scores 25-8, 30-28.

In the championship match against Goshen, Kelsey Featherston had 14 digs, five assists, seven kills and five aces; Kaleigh Shultz had 14 blocks, 15 digs, 15 assists, six kills and three aces; Marina Stoffel had two blocks, 23 digs and six kills; and Rebecca Daniels had 22 digs, nine blocks and six kills.

The Lady Eagles ended the year with a 23-2 record.
