Huntington Hornets grab pair of runner-up placings

The Huntington Hornets 10U all-star team has claimed runner-up honors at two tournaments in as many weeks.

The Hornets posted a 5-2 record at Covington. Carly Collins led the way with eight hits, seven runs scored and a batting average of .727 with five RBI and a double. MacKenzie LaCroix also had eight hits and seven RBIs with two doubles, and a two-run walk-off single. Madison Reust led the team with six stolen bases and an .889 on-base percentage. Tori Meyers supplied a double. Kate Leichty had 2 doubles, one of which was a 2 RBI walkoff.

Over the weekend of Sept. 6-7, the team finished 4-1. Leichty led the way with six hits, 10 runs scored and nine RBI. She also hit the Hornets' first home run of the season, driving in three runs. LaCroix produced six hits and nine RBI with a team high batting average of .667, including a double and a triple. Alexa Spahr had a .667 batting average and a double. Evelyn Lee led the team in stolen bases with nine and a .923 on-base percentage. Hannah Brown and Carly Collins each smacked a triple.

During the last few weeks, the Hornets have amassed 67 hits, 126 runs scored, 80 stolen bases, 69 RBI, a batting average of .409, an on base percentage of .667, eight doubles, three triples and a home run. The team has yielded only 42 hits, 63 runs, 40 stolen bases, 37 RBI, a batting average of .219 and an on base percentage of .459.

The Hornets will next compete Oct. 5-6 in Muncie and round out the season the following weekend in Warsaw.
