HU netmen blow past USF in opener

The Huntington University men's tennis team easily topped host University of Saint Francis, 8-1, on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in its season-opener.

The Foresters, 1-0, swept singles play. Senior Vlad Khudziy led the way at first singles, defeating Nathan Barger 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Joseph Straznicky won a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Matt Stallman at second singles. Senior Jose Hungria took the third singles match against Ryan Mey, 6-0, 6-1. At fourth singles, sophomore Diego Inurritegui took down Payton Selking, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Joe Brenneman won his fifth singles match against Tate Dishman, 6-1, 1-6, 10-1, and senior Zakk Sparks beat Daniel Harrold at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1, to round out the team's efforts.

In doubles play, Khudziy and Hungria overwhelmed Barger and Stallman at first doubles, 8-1, and Straznicky and Inurritegui blanked Mey and Harrold at second doubles, 8-0.

Brenneman and Sparks fell to Dishman and Selking in the third doubles match, 5-8, for Huntington's lone loss on the day.
