Senior running back David George rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Huntington North High School varsity football team to a 22-12 victory in the last home game of the season against visiting Marion on Friday, Oct. 9.

George, filling in for starter Austin Drummond, lugged the leather 35 times for the Vikings, now 5-3 on the season. His touchdowns came on runs of 8 and 54 yards.

The senior got help from wide receiver Shaun Marion, who caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mitch Vezeau.

George got the Vikings on the scoreboard first when he went over from the 8-yard line with 6:47 left in the opening quarter. Marion bounced right back, however when the Giants' Barnes went 80 yards on the first play from scrimmage to bring the game to 7-6.

Vezeau found Marion for their TD hook-up with just 14 seconds left in the first half to push HNHS to a 13-6 lead. The pass culminated a nine-play 60-yard drive. Austin Drummond ran in the two-point conversion to push the score to 15-6.

After a scoreless third quarter, George rambled 54 yards for his second touchdown of the game with 11:51 left, putting HNHS up 22-6 after the extra point. Marion made it closer with a touchdown pass from Barnes to Reynolds with 8:33 left in the contest.

Senior Dillon Kinsey led the Viking defense with two interceptions, and Aaron Wolf was top tackler with six. Nick Miller had five tackles, including a pair for negative yardage.

Although Barnes wound up with 105 yards rushing, the stingy Viking defense allowed the Giants only 79 yards of total offense in addition to the 80-yard score.

The Vikings had 270 yards of total offense. Vezeau added 43 yards rushing and hit seven of 13 passes for 54 yards and the score.

Drummond caught five passes for 37 yards.

The win pushed Huntington North to a 4-2 record in the North Central Conference.

The Vikings travel to Muncie Central on Oct. 16 for the last game of the regular season.
