Rosen homer is lone run as Lady Vikings win regional, 1-0
Wednesday, May 29, 2013 2:41 PM
Kaylynn Rosen blasted a fourth-inning home run for the only score of the game and Erin Rethlake fired a two-hit shutout as the Huntington North High School varsity softball team edged Carroll, 1-0, on Tuesday, May 28, at the Huntington North Softball Regional.
The win advances the Lady Vikings, 25-2, into the Harrison Semi-State, where they will face the host school, 15-14, on Saturday, June 1, at 1 p.m. Harrison got to the semi-state by defeating 25-4 Hamilton Southeastern.
Rosen's bomb was her third in the last three games for Huntington North and sixth of the season, and couldn't have come at a more opportune moment for the Lady Vikings, noted HNHS Head coach Paris Seibold.
"Kaylynn come through on a big shot and hit the big home run to get us the lead," Seibold commented. "She's been hitting the ball well. I told her, I said, ‘Get them hands out there and drive it.' Boy, she did."
Rethlake, a junior, fanned 13 in her complete game shutout while outdueling Carroll junior Kathryn Guebard, who fanned 11.
"They (Carroll) had gotten better all season," Seibold noted. "We knew it was going to be a real tough game. Their pitcher throws a lot of jump pitches, drops and rises, and we were swinging at them early. Finally we got a little more focused, put the ball in play some. I was kind of disappointed we didn't score more runs. We had a couple of times we didn't."
Carroll finished its season with a 25-7 record.
