Wednesday, May 15, 2013 4:08 PM
Makayla Whaley had three hits and two runs batted in and Erin Rethlake extended her scoreless streak as the Huntington North High School varsity softball team blanked visiting Kokomo, 10-0, on Tuesday, May 14.
The win not only improves the Lady Vikings' overall record to 20-1 but also clinched the North Central Conference Crown with a 7-0 mark.
Rethlake, who hasn't been scored upon in her last 17 appearances, limited Kokomo to just one hit while striking out 10 and not walking a batter.
Whaley, who hit a pair of doubles and scored twice, led a 13-hit HNHS attack in support of
Rethlake. The junior hurler helped her own cause with two hits, and Audrey Hiner also chipped in a pair. Alyssa Hiple smacked a triple.
The Lady Vikes scored single runs in the second and third innings, then got two in the fourth before unloading a six-spot on Kokomo in the fifth inning to end the contest.
