Burke leads Lady Vikings to 18th win of season

Junior Tiffany Burke had three hits and three runs batted in to help lead the Huntington North High School varsity softball team past host Fort Wayne Snider, 14-7, on Thursday, May 9.

Three Lady Viking pitchers combined to pitch a seven-hitter as the Lady Vikings won for the 18th time in 19 outings. Mikayla Gray started, went the first two innings and got her third win of the season, yielding just one hit and no runs. Tori Newsome had the next inning and gave up four runs, two earned on two hits, and Kaylynn Rosen went the final four innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits.

Erin Rethlake also had three hits for the Lady Vikings, with four runs scored and five stolen bases, and Natasha Grover also had a trio of safeties as the Lady Vikings beat up Snider pitching for 20 hits. Maddi Kennedy and Cassie Lange each had two hits, and Alyssa Hiple added in two ribbies.

The Lady Vikes scored single runs in the second and third innings, and scored four runs in the fourth, sixth and seven innings.

Ellie Scheiber had the game-winning run batted in as the Huntington North High School junior varsity softball team edged visiting Fort Wayne Snider 9-8 on Thursday, May 9.

Monica Minton had three hits, including a double and two RBI to lead the way for HNHS, 7-3. Ryle Bowman added two hits, including a double, and had two runs scored.

Alexandra Kreider was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game and yielding seven hits, with seven strikeouts and two walks.
