Lady Vikes get comfortable win over Berries

Playing Logansport on back-to-back nights, the Huntington North High School varsity softball team followed up a tight 3-0 road win with a much more comfortable 10-2 victory at home against the Berries on Wednesday, May 8.

The Lady Vikings, 17-1, 5-0 in the North Central Conference, had hot bats from the start, plating three in each of the game's first three innings to lead 9-0. Logansport put two runs on the board in the fourth to break the shutout, but an insurance tally in the sixth for Huntington North took the contest to its final register.

A home run was among two hits for Erin Rethlake and she had two runs batted in and a run scored. Makayla Whaley added two doubles and two RBI while crossing home once and Maddie Kennedy added two hits, an RBI and a game-high three runs scored.

Sydney Thompson led the Berries, 10-9, 3-2 in the NCC, with a double, an RBI and a run.

Mikayla Gray pitched the first two innings for Huntington North, Tori Newsome threw the following two and Rethlake handled the final three. Gray yielded only two hits and walked none for the win, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Bailie Long got the loss for Logansport, surrendering five hits and six earned runs in two frames.
