Doubles sweep helps HNHS tennis team top Northrop

A sweep of doubles and a win in singles helped the Huntington North High School boys' varsity tennis team edge Northrop 3-2 on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

David Ballard was the lone winner for HNHS in singles, defeating Northrop's Sam Oren 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1.

Viking Chris Royer fell to Spencer Barnes 2-6, 3-6 in second singles, and Phil Truitt lost in third singles to Yanni Stavretis 4-6, 0-6.

Huntington North took both doubles matches, with the Viking team of Christian Webb and Ian Kardatzke defeating Jake Stiefel and Brian York 6-2, 6-3; and Neal Hamilton and Adam Klaffke winning over Justin Castleman and T.J. Barshney 6-0, 6-1.

Wednesday's meet brought the Vikings to an even 8-8 record in the season.

The HNHS junior varsity squad, 9-6-1, dominated Northrop 4-1, allowing only one Bruin win in singles.
Viking Luke Hoffman defeated Johnny Nguyen 8-1, and Keith Stambaugh won over Jin N. 8-2.
Alex Sereno lost to Kyle Nallenwag in a close 6-8 match.

In doubles, Stephen Reich and Ethan Hethcote beat Chris Cammack and Isiah Bledsoe 8-1, and Jeremy Rice and Ben North prevailed over Cammack and Bledsoe 6-1.
