West throws no-hitter at Snider
Tuesday, April 23, 2013 11:06 AM
Junior Conner West came within an out of a perfect game but still wound up with a no-hitter to lead the Huntington North High School varsity baseball team to a 7-0 win over visiting Fort Wayne Snider on Monday, April 22.
West retired the first 20 batters he faced before hitting the Panthers' Isaiah Newton with two outs in the top of the seventh. He then retired the next Snider hitter to finish the no-no.
While West was mowing down Snider hitters, the Vikings, 5-3, were banging out 12 hits against two Panther hurlers, with Devon Goelz, Braydin Stell, Heaston Schwob, Austin Hale and Mitch Hughes each having two. Hale led the way with two runs batted in, and Goelz, Schwob, West and Hughes each had one.
Goelz, Stell, Schwob and Hale all banged out doubles.
The Vikings scored a pair of runs in the first inning, scored solo runs in the fourth and sixth innings and punched in three runs in the fifth inning.
West had five strikeouts in his gem.
Snider is 1-6 on the season.
