Rethlake, big hitting attack carry Lady Vikes to fourth straight win

Another strong pitching performance by Erin Rethlake paired with solid team hitting took the Huntington North High School varsity softball team to its fourthstraight win of the season, a 9-1 drubbing of host Carroll on Wednesday, April 18.

Rethlake threw a complete game for the Lady Vikings, 4-0, yielding only three hits and an earned run. The left-hander also had a 4 for 4 day at the plate, with a triple, a double and three runs scored.

Tori Newsome and Alyssa Hiple each went 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs batted in, with the latter also scoring a run for the Lady Vikings, who pounded out 16 hits on the afternoon.

The Chargers, 5-2, got their run at the bottom of the first inning to make things 2-1, but Rethlake held the hosts scoreless after that, fanning 11 for the contest.

Huntington North picked up another run in the third, piled on five in the fifth and got an insurance tally in the sixth to take the game to its final score.

Emily Catanzarite had two hits for Carroll and the team's RBI.

Hurler Katy Guebard got the loss, surrendering 16 hits and four earned runs for the Chargers over seven innings.
