Forester diamond men earn split with IWU

The Huntington University baseball team spotted host Indiana Wesleyan a 2-0 lead but scored nine runs in the last four innings for a 9-2 second game win and split of its doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2.

The Foresters, 5-13, dropped the first game 3-2.

Brian Kirschbaum hit a run-scoring double in the fourth inning of the second game to cut the IWU lead to 2-1, and the Foresters went ahead with two runs in the fifth. March Bowers singled, moved to second on an Austin Drummond sacrifice and scored on a single by Adam Christner. Jordan Klopfenstein struck out but reached base when the IWU catcher missed the third strike, and after a double steal, Christner scored on a Jamon Hammel groundout.

HU got two more runs in the sixth, with Drummond getting an RBI, then HU salted the game away with four runs in the seventh, three IWU errors being the big reason.

Xyan Adkisson got the win on the mound for HU, evening his record at 2-2, by pitching 4.1 innings and giving up both runs on six hits, with a strikeout and walk. Kirschbaum pitched the final 2.2 innings, yielding just one hit, with three strikeouts.

Lanphier and Kirschbaum each had two of the Foresters' eight hits.

HU jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the opener, but saw IWU score one in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to get the win.

Lanphier also had two hits in the first game.

Cody Walters took the loss, giving up all three runs, two earned, on four hits, with two strikeouts and one walk in 4.2 innings.

IWU is 13-11 on the season, including 8-2 in the Crossroads League.
