2 Lady Vike relay teams medal at state indoor

A pair of Huntington North High School girls' varsity track and field relay teams came away with medals at the Hoosier State Relays indoor state finals at Indiana Wesleyan University's Troyer Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 16.

The 3,200-meter relay squad of Hannah Stoffel, Kayla Patrick, Karson Rowe and Stephanie McElhaney turned in a time of 9:51.79, good for sixth place. The 1,600-meter relay team, comprised of Patrick, Alexis Wygant, Lindsey Foster and Machaela Mertz, ran to a sixth place finish as well, with a time of 4:09.77.

The top eight finishers in each event received medals and all-state honors.

Also competing for the Lady Vikings was Maddie Klender in shot put, who placed 12th with a throw of 37 feet, 5.25 inches; Wygant in the pole vault, who placed 15th with a height of 9-0; Foster in long jump, who made 18th with a leap of 16 feet, 3.75 inches; and the 4,000-meter distance medley relay team of Patrick, Mertz, Stoffel and Marie Ditzler, which finished 19th in 13:14.08.

For the boys' team, Jon Rentschler's toss of 43 feet, 5.5 inches in shot put landed him in 22nd place.
