Spahrs set school record to lead Lady Vikings to third at Flashrock Invite

School-record performances by Gretchen Spahr and Natalie Spahr led the Huntington North High School girls' cross country team to a third place finish at the Flashrock
Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Gretchen Spahr placed sixth in 19:10.6 and Natalie Spahr was ninth in 19:12 to both eclipse the two-week-old school mark of 19:15 set by Gretchen Spahr at the Marion Invitational.

The big efforts helped HNHS score 114 points. Franklin Central won the meet with a dominant 35-point effort, and Westfield scored 110 points for second place.
Cathedral was fourth among 19 teams competing with 133 points, and North Central was fifth with 139.

Molly King and Robyn Karst backed up the Spahrs with 28th and 29th places, respectively, and Kayla Patrick placed 42nd to complete the scoring for HNHS. King had a 19:57.7, Karst ran a personal-best 20:02.8 and Patrick went 20:17.9.

Right behind Patrick was teammate Elaine Yahne, in 43rd with a personal record 20:18.6, and Becca Goodman was the final HNHS runner counting in team scoring, placing 53rd in 20:25.7.

The Lady Vikings also had Karson Rowe, Cassie Hacker, Olivia Eckert and Nicole Smith competing.

The Franklin Central duo of Danie Sullivan and Jasmine Al-Anzi took first and second, respectively. Franklin also had the eighth, 11th and 13 place finishers.

The junior varsity Lady Vikings also placed third, led by the second place finish of Heidi Blocker.

Blocker came home in 21:04 to lead HNHS to 77 points. Westfield had 38 to win the meet, and Noblesville was second with 46 points.

Tonya Albertson placed eighth for HNHS, Marie Ditzler was 17th, Kelsey Smart placed 25th and Emma Clor placed 27th.
