Sunday, March 17, 2013 8:50 AM
Huntington North's Mavin Chaney turned in a score of 8.400 in competition on balance beam at the State Gymnastics Finals at Ball State University on Saturday, March 16.
The sophomore's tally landed her in a tie for 36th-place among 52 competitors.
The trip to state was Chaney's first. Though her 8.400 score was below the 9.025 she achieved in regionals, it matched her score in sectionals.
Anna Watkin, of Owen Valley, won balance beam with a 9.575.
Other individual champions included Valparaiso's Morgan Algozine on vault and on bars, with a 9.875 and a 9.700, respectively, and Portage's Mackenzie Barcelli on floor and in the all-around, with a 9.675 and a 38.325, respectively.
Portage won the team competition with a 112.600.
