Blue Racers third out of six teams at Oak Hill Swimming Invitational

The Blue Racers boys' and girls' swimming teams used the team approach to finish third out of six teams at the Oak Hill Swimming Invitational on Saturday, March 9.

Despite only producing two first-place winners, the Blue Racers totaled 260 points, finishing behind champion Norwell, with 299 points, and Kokomo with 291.

Corbin Cozad produced one of the Blue Racers' first-place finishes, topping the 100-yard backstroke, while Cody Barton grabbed the other in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Cozad also swam to one of the Blue Racers' four second place finishes, taking the silver spot in the 50-yard butterfly. Emma Helmich captured second in both the 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard butterfly and joined Cozad, Barton and Macy Lange on the 400-yard freestyle relay team to finish second there, too.

Other top 10 finishes came in the form of Lexi Miller's third in the 100-yard breaststroke, Barton's third in the 100-yard individual medley, the fourth place finish by the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kevin King, Emma Gordon, Alexandra Short and Hale Bowen, Paul Helmich's fourth in the 400-yard freestyle, Jacob Koons' fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, Chase McCann's fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, the fifth place finish by the medley relay team comprised of Bethany Brunner, Paul Helmich, Miller and McCann, Lange's sixth in the 400-yard freestyle, McCann's sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, Bowen's sixth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and his seventh in the 100-yard freestyle, Jacob Burns' eighth in the 50-yard butterfly, Short's ninth in the 400-yard freestyle, Miller's ninth in the 50-yard freestyle, King's ninth in the 100-yard backstroke and his 10th in the 100-yard freestyle, Emma Gordon's 10th in the 200-yard freestyle and Paul Helmich's 10th in the 100-yard individual medley.

The boys' team sits at 1-4 while the girls' team is 0-1-4.
