Saturday, February 16, 2013 10:47 AM
The dreams of a state wrestling title for Huntington North High School senior Sebastian Eckert were dashed moments ago, on Saturday morning, Feb. 16, as he lost on a major decision to undefeated Josh Farrell of Greenfield Central in the quarterfinals at the Indiana State Wrestling Tournament.
Wrestling at 152 pounds, Eckert was dominated in a 20-7 loss as Farrell, a senior, improved his record to 46-0 and moved into the semifinals, where he will face 35-3 Conner Brummett of DeKalb. Farrell is the top seed at 152.
Eckert, 34-7, will wrestle later in the day in the consolation brackets against 37-6 Jackson Bennett of Hamilton Southeastern for a chance to finish as high as fifth place. The winner of this match will face the winner of the match between 38-5 Nick Borta of North Montgomery and 36-5 Brayden Montgomery of Danville to determine who finishes fifth and sixth, with the two losers to battle for seventh and eighth places.
Brummett took out Bennett, 9-0, in the quarters.
In the other two quarterfinal matches, Isaiah Bradley of Muncie Southside, 35-0, decisioned Borta, 15-10, and Vinny Corsaro of Indianapolis Cathedral, 45-3, was a 3-0 winner over Montgomery.
