The Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team produced no individual champions at the Marion Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 9, but finished second out of six squads with a strong team performance.

The Lady Vikings landed at least two gymnasts in the top 10 in every event, totaling 96.250 points.

Mavin Chaney set the tone for Huntington North, capturing the team's highest finish in three of the four events. The sophomore's second-place finish on balance beam was her highest of the day, with a score of 9.1. Mikayla Carpenter placed 10th on balance beam with a 7.75.

Chaney grabbed fifth on the uneven parallel bars with a 7.5 and Carly Snyder obtained eighth with a 7.3.

A quartet of Lady Vikings placed in the floor exercise, with Chaney and Alexa Shoemaker each scoring an 8.25, and the former capturing fifth and the latter taking sixth, with all-around scores serving as the tiebreaker. Snyder placed ninth with an 8.1 and Carpenter slid into 10th with an 8.05 to round out the group of four.

Carpenter's sixth-place finish led the team on vault, the junior scoring an 8.7. Chaney's 8.55 was good enough for eighth and Snyder's 8.525 secured ninth.

In the all-around, Chaney finished sixth with a 33.4 and Snyder was ninth with a 31.075.

Northrop won the invitational with 101.400 points and Rachael Anderson of Heritage was the all-around champion with a 34.65.
