HU men drop game to Marian

Host Marian University couldn't miss in the second half of its game with the Huntington University men's basketball team on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and the Knights erased the Foresters' halftime lead and won 82-72.

Marian shot 78.3 percent in the game's second frame, sinking 18 of 23 shots. Jake Stafford led the scoring surge, tossing in 27 of his game-high 29 points after the break.

Nick Achille added 22 points to the Knights' offensive effort and Jason Riley had 15.

Huntington had the hot scoring hands in the first half, as the team shot 62.5 percent, making 15 of 24 attempts to take a 40-35 advantage into the half.

Shane Merryman paced the Foresters, 12-11, 3-8 in Crossroads League play, with 21 points. T.J. Short supplied 17 points to Huntington's cause and Tyler Ault delivered 14.

On the strength of its second half numbers, Marian edged Huntington in shooting for the game, 60.8 percent to 58.7, converting 31 of 51 tries to the Foresters' 27 for 46 effort.
