Lady Viking gymnasts sixth at Carter Classic

The Huntington North High School gymnastics team grabbed sixth place among 16 teams competing at the 2013 Carter Classic at Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne.

The Lady Vikes scored 95.000 points to earn their finish. Valparaiso won the meet with a total of 109.175, just nipping Bishop Dwenger, which scored 108.150. Merrillville was third with 100.100 points, Carroll took fourth with 99.400 and Fort Wayne Northrop was fifth with 98.650.

The Lady Vikes again piled up their most points in the vault, scoring a 25.600 for seventh place. Mikayla Carpenter and Robyn Karst led HNHS with matching scores of 8.600 and placed 21st and 22nd, respectively. Mavin Chaney tallied an 8.300 for 37th.

Position-wise, the Lady Vikes' best showing was in the balance beam, where they placed fourth with a score of 23.250. Chaney led the way with 12th place on a score of 8.000, followed by Carpenter in 17th with a 7.700 and Ana Eckert in 19th with a score of 7.550.

The Lady Vikes were seventh in floor exercise with a sore of 23.900. Alexa Shoemaker hit an 8.300 to place 21st, Carpenter scored a 7.950 to place 29th and Karst tallied a 7.500 for 38th place.

In uneven bars, the Lady Vikes were eighth with a total of 22.250, led by Hannah Bomba with a score of 7.500 for 27th place. Snyder was 31st with a 7.400 and Chaney was 32nd with the same score.
