Viking wrestlers have tough tournament at Avon

Standout performances by Sebastian Eckert, Kyle Jolas and Tanner Shipley weren't enough to keep the Huntington North High School boys' varsity wrestling team from going 0-5 at the Avon Super 6 Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The Vikings fell to Avon, 43-21; Fishers, 48-21; Danville, 68-6; Carmel, 39-26; and Harrison, 48-31.

Eckert, wrestling at 152 pounds, went 5-0, racking up four pins and a decision. Jolas, at 145, went 4-1 with three pins and a technical fall. Shipley, at 132, also went 4-1, getting two pins and two decisions.

Alex Beal, at 126, was 3-2, recording a pin and earning a pair of decisions. Layne Emery, at 195, went 3-2 on three decisions.

Shawn Renz went 2-3 at heavyweight, picking up a pin and a decision.

Ian Hiers, at 138, and Dakota Plasterer, at 170, each went 1-4, with the former notching a major decision and the latter forcing a pin.

Chandler Updike, at 160, and Josh Danals, at 220, both finished 0-5 to round out the team.
