Five Foresters in double figures as HU tops St. Francis

Sarah Miller-Jennings led five Foresters in double figures as the Huntington University women's basketball team topped the University of St. Francis (IL), 77-65, on Saturday, Dec. 29, to place third in the St. Xavier University Holiday Tournament.

Amelia Recker scored 15 points, Pazia Speed had 14, Allison Greene had 13 and Taylor Foley added 10 for the Foresters, 10-4 on the season.

HU jumped off to a 31-22 halftime lead but St. Francis was within two points at 55-53 with 7:26 to play before Miller-Jennings drained a 3-pointer to give the Foresters breathing room. The Foresters nailed 11 free throws down the stretch to keep St. Francis at bay.

HU hit 28 of 54 shots from the field for 51.9 percent, including 5 of 7 from beyond the arc for 71.4 percent. They hit 16 of 22 free throw tries.

St. Francis, 7-9, was led by Katie Gonnering with a game-high 23 points. Ashley Teresiak added 10 points.

Foley led the Foresters on the boards with eight rebounds, and Speed grabbed seven. Miller-Jennings led in assists with six, and Speed added five.

St. Francis hit 23 of 57 shots for 40.4 percent and 15 of 17 free throw tries for 88.2 percent.
