Merryman keys late spurt to push Foresters past Cincinnati Christian

Shane Merryman keyed an 11-0 run late in the game to overcome a three-point deficit and send the Huntington University men's basketball team to a 66-59 win over visiting Cincinnati Christian on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Merryman, a junior, made a three-point play to tie the game for its 11th and final time at 45-all with 8:48 left, then hit another two shots and got an assist as HU opened up an eight-point lead at 53-45 with 5:22 left in the contest.

The Foresters gunned in 14 of 18 shots from the field and 12 of 13 free throw tries in the second half to gain their seventh win against five losses.

Merryman led all scorers with 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting. T.J. Short added 12, followed by Ryan Boester with 11 and Alec Peterson with 10.

Huntington shot 55.8 percent for the game on a 24 for 43 effort.

Kenny Gaynor put up 18 for Cincinnati Christian, 6-7, with D.J. McCommons adding 13.

Cincinnati Christian finished the game shooting 39.7 percent on a 23 of 58 performance.

Colin Featherston came off the HU bench to grab a game-high nine rebounds, score seven points and dish out three assists.

Merryman led in assists with five, and Boester and Stephen Jones matched Featherston with three each.
