The Huntington North High School varsity football team fell to visiting Richmond 28-17 on Friday, Sept. 4.

The Vikings, 1-2, were no match for Richmond's air wizardry as Red Devil quarterback Stevie Jarrett rained 417 yards and four touchdowns on the defense. The Richmond passer hit 26 of his 39 attempts for the night, and did not have an interception.

For their part, the Vikings tried to fire back with an effective ground game, putting up 225 yards on the night, with Austin Shomemaker notching 77 yards on 11 carries, David George getting 72 on 10 carries and Nick LaFollette gaining 51 yards on five carries.

Courtesy of Jarrett's first two touchdown passes, the Vikings were down 14-0 when their first points came, on a 21-yard field goal from Mitch Vezeau with 2:21 left in the first half. Jarrett threw his third scoring strike of the game late in the third quarter, but HNHS matched that with 18 seconds left in the frame when Vezeau connected with Brett Wiley for a 39-yard scoring pass.

The Vikings' final score came late in the fourth quarter with Richmond holding a comfortable 28-10 margin, thanks to Jarrett's fourth TD pass midway through the frame. Vezeau found Cole Bowman for an 11-yard score.

Braydin Stell had the extra point for both Viking touchdowns.

Nick Miller lead the Viking defense with 10 tackles and two assists. Nelson Little added nine tackles.

Vezeau went 15 of 34 for 194 yards and two scores.  Wiley had six receptions for 121 yeards and Austin Drummond grabbed eight throws for 63 yards.

Shoemaker's 77 rushing yards brought his total to 541 yards this season.

The Vikings are 0-1 in conference.
