Foresters top Concordia in Ness tourney first round

The Huntington University men's basketball team topped visiting Concordia University, 74-60, on Friday, Nov. 9, to advance to the championship game of the Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Huntington's T.J. Short led all scorers with 24 points.

Shane Merryman chipped in with 15 points and Alex Peterson added 14 to go with a team-high nine rebounds for HU, 2-1.

The Foresters built a 34-21 lead after the first half of play.

Short, Merryman and Stephen Jones shared assists duty, dishing out four apiece as the team piled up 22 assists for its 28 baskets.

Chatavius Turner led Concordia with 16 points.

The Foresters hit 28 of 59 shots from the field for 47.5 percent and 13 of 21 from the charity stripe for 61.9 percent. The visitors hit 23 of 57 from the field for 40.4 percent, and went 10 of 12 from the free-throw line for 83.3 percent.
