Lady Viking harriers return to state meet

The Huntington North High School girls' cross country team punched its ticket to state with a sixth place finish in the New Haven Cross Country Semi-State at The Plex, in Fort Wayne, on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The Lady Vikings' score of 190 earned them the sixth and final state-qualifying team spot.
Senior Robyn Karst finished first for Huntington North, taking 27th place overall in 19:48.39. Freshman Hannah Stoffel was next, securing 32nd place in 19:59.49. Senior Kayla Patrick placed 43rd in 20:19.31. Freshman Marissa Jamison was 64th and senior Karson Rowe was 67th in 20:48.66 and 20:53.87, respectively, to round out the team's scoring.
Sophomore Stephanie McElhaney placed 68th in 20:54.92 and senior Marie Ditzler grabbed 81st in 21:04.89 to complete the team.
Carroll won the meet with a score of 62 points. Northridge was second with 117, Fort Wayne Concordia earned third with 170, Penn took fourth with 176 and Homestead placed fifth with 189.
Anna Rohrer, of Mishawaka, was the individual champion with a time of 17:03.96, more than a minute faster than the second place finisher, Anna Aldrich of Fremont. Joining those two as individuals at state will be Maddie Woods of Penn, third place; Abigail Hostetler of Fremont, fourth place; Amanda Farrough of South Bend Clay, fifth; Sierra Moore of Elkhart Memorial, sixth; Ericka Rinehart of Angola, seventh; Samantha Roush of Columbia City, ninth; Jennifer Emery of Leon, 11th; and Jenna Halderman of Northfield, 12th.
State finals are Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. a the LaVern Gibson Chamionship Cross Country clourse in Terre Haute.
Huntington North finished 19th at last year's state meet.
