King leads HNHS girl harriers to second place at DeKalb Classic

Molly King's fifth place finish led the Huntington North High School girls' cross country team to a second place finish at the DeKalb Classic cross country meet on Saturday, Aug. 29.

King cruised the 5-kilometer course in 19:39.67 to pace the HNHS girls for the second straight week. The Lady Vikes scored 83 points to 49 for champion Carroll.

Gretchen Spahr returned to action with a 13th place finish for HNHS in 20:05.02, and sister Natalie Spahr placed 15th in 20:10.17. Kayla Patrick placed fourth for HNHS with a 23rd place finish, in 20:51.16, and Becca Goodman edged out teammate Elaine Yahne for 27th place and the final scoring slot for HNHS with a time of 21:07.21.

Yahne was 28th, and Karson Rowe was seventh for HNHS with an overall 31st place finish.

Carroll had three runners in the top 10 on the way to its win, led by second place finisher Cierston Deardorf.

Ashley Erba of Warsaw was the individual champion with a time of 19:04.94.

Northridge took third place as a team with 114 points among the 13 teams competing. Warsaw finished fourth and DeKalb placed fifth.
