JV volleyball team places second at LaFayette Jeff JV Invite

The Huntington North High School girls' junior varsity volleyball team placed second at the Lafayette Jefferson JV Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 22, falling in the championship match to Valparaiso, 16-25 and 12-25.

The Lady Vikings, improving to 4-2, beat McCutcheon, Merrillville and Benton Central in their first three matches of the day to punch their ticket to the championship match.

Gretchen PeGan had three aces, Peyton Pike had four kills and Taylor Hiers had eight digs to pace HNHS in the championship match.
The Lady Vikings were pushed to three games to beat McCutcheon in the opening match, 25-23, 13-25 and 15-12.

Gretchen PeGan and Jessica Morgan each had six kills to pace the frontliners, and Laura Daronatsy had 23 assists. Lindsay McElhaney had four aces.

The HNHS defense was led by Taylor Hiers with 16 digs.
HNHS beat Merrillville 25-18 in its second match of the day.

PeGan had seven kills, Pike had five kills and Daronatsy had eight assists.

The Lady Vikings then took down Benton Central, 25-21 and 25-16.

Daronatsy had 17 assists, while Morgan had six kills and Kayla Koch chipped in with five aces. Hiers had five digs.
