Boys' tennis team edges Peru in season opener

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity tennis team opened its season by edging the host Peru Tigers on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 3-2.

David Ballard at first singles rolled over Peru's Dylan Eckelbarger, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the victory.

Phillip Truitt at third singles and the number two doubles team of Ian Kardatzke and Matt Harter also won for HNHS.

Truitt, a junior, handily beat Dylan Martino, 6-2, 6-2. The HNHS doubles pair beat Andre McMiller and Brady Black, 6-2, 7-5.

Chris Royer at second singles went to three sets before losing to the Tigers' Zach Saylor, 6-0, 0-6, 2-6.

The number one doubles team of Christian Webb and Neal Hamilton fell to James Guthrie and Brandt Manriquez, 2-6, 1-6.

The HNHS junior varsity team also won its match, 3-2.

Winning for the JV Vikes were singles players Luke Huffman and Jeremy Rice and the doubles team of Alex Sereno and Stephen Reich.

Huffman beat Jamie Wright, 8-6, and Rice defeated Jared Andrews by the same score. The doubles team beat Zach Scaaf and Jared Andrews, 8-4.
