Cancel 2020 Roanoke Fall Festival

The Roanoke Civic Association Board of Directors has voted to unanimously cancel the 2020 Roanoke Fall Festival, scheduled for Sept. 11 and 12.

The board has had several meetings over the last few months to discuss how to plan the festival in light of the ongoing concerns with COVID-19.

The discussions included how organizers could safely hold the 2020 festival and comply with state and local recommendations and guidelines
pertaining to COVID-19.

A statement on the festival’s Facebook page also states that many local families and businesses have been impacted by COVID-19 financially this year, which has impacted the sponsorship funds available.

“We are saddened to announce the cancellation as we all look forward to this long running community event,” the statement read. “However, the risk to the health and safety of our community members, vendors, volunteers and Board members is too great at this time and we feel it’s in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel the festival this year.”

The American Legion Post 160 has also notified the Board of Directors that they have canceled the parade on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The decision to cancel the Roanoke Fall Festival does not pertain to the Tractor Pull or Demo Derby events held during the festival weekend.

These events are organized by the Roanoke Tractor Pullers Association, which is a separate organization. Check the Roanoke Tractor Pullers Association’s Facebook page for details and updates regarding their tractor pull and demo derby events.

Next year’s Roanoke Fall Festival is set for Sept. 10 and 11, 2021.
