In the spirit of an old-time church service, Rev. Chris Hayden will bring some tried-and-true preaching to the congregation when he ministers at the annual Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival Worship Service on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. at the Huntington County Fairgrounds.

Hayden, who is the pastor of Central Christian Church, will lead the 50-minute non-denominational worship service at the “Opera House Saloon” – also known as the Larry and Joyce Keiffer Family Living Building – along with the Central Christian Church congregation in ministering with sacred music and hymns of the period.

“I’m excited about doing it. It’s an honor to be able to do this for the community,” he says.

Hayden will draw from the teachings of D.L. Moody for his message.

“He lived in that era,” he explains. “He preached a lot on two things, salvation and the Bible. His message sort of goes along with our (church) marquee out there, which says that, ‘We were ruined by sin, we’re redeemed by Christ and we are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.’ … That was a message that Moody would preach a lot.”

Hayden adds his sermon is guaranteed to have “a little fire, a little brimstone but a lot of love” in the message.

Those attending the worship service must pay the festival admission fee; however, if they stay only for the worship service and leave the park before 10:30 a.m. they can request a refund of the admission fee.

Any Huntington County church wishing to participate in future Pioneer Festival worship services should contact Worship Service Chair Phyllis Renz at info@visithunting ton.org.
