A tough three-set win by the second doubles team of Sarah Fryman and Alisha Leffler helped the Huntington North High School girls' varsity tennis team slip past host Adams Central, 3-2, on Tuesday, May 14.
Singles players Kylie Frederick and Emily Eherenman got the other two wins for HNHS as it raised its record to 8-6 on the season.
Fryman and Leffler beat Jenny Baumer and Anna Burkhart, 6-4, in the first set, but lost the second set, 5-7. The Lady Viking duo then came back for another 6-4 win to take the match.
Frederick at first singles ran past Whittney Peterson, 6-2, 6-0, and Eherenman at third singles beat Olivia Mishler, 6-4, 6-0.
Casey Richman at second singles fell to Jenna Lehman, 5-7, 3-6, and the first doubles team of Ana Eckert and Emily Karst battled gamely but came up short in a three-setter to Katie Caroll and Abby Snyder, losing 7-6, 2-6, 4-6.
The Lady Vikes won only two of eight junior varsity matches contested to drop to 6-7 on the season.
HNHS winners were Haley Hart and Maddie Phillips, 6-4 victors over Jenny Schultz and Haley Gross, and Michaela Cook and Kristen Dyson, 7-5 winners over Brianna Pettibone and Taylor Biberstine.
