Walker Spahr struck out nine batters and went the distance on the mound to guide the Huntington North High School varsity baseball team to a 7-4 win over visiting Marion on Wednesday, May 7.
Spahr, a junior, limited the Giants to four hits and three earned runs to notch his fourth victory against only one loss.
The Vikings, 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the North Central Conference, put up solo tallies in the first and third innings, then plated two runners in the fifth frame and three more in the sixth to take a commanding 7-2 lead before Marion scored twice in the seventh to tighten things up.
Senior Mitch Hughes led Coach Brian Abbott's squad with three hits, two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored while Spahr helped his own cause with two RBI on as many hits.
Junior Blake Gray also produced two base pokes as Huntington North finished with nine overall.
All those hits came against Marion hurler Devon Sheward, who gave up four earned runs in 5.2 innings to take the loss.
The Giants, 5-11, 0-2 in the NCC, were paced on offense by Javon Yeakle's pair of RBI on as many base pokes.
