Rex M. Hammel, 69, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Markle.
Mr. Hammel graduated from Huntington High School in 1962. He was the owner and operator of Huntington Tractor Sales Inc., in Huntington, for almost 50 years, partnering first with his father and later with his son. He retired in 2008.
He was born Nov. 2, 1944, in Huntington to Stanton F. and Melba L. Raymer Hammel. He married JoAnn E. Swoverland on April 18, 1964, in Huntington, and she survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Jeff (Marie) Hammel, of Andrews, and Chad (Nan) Hammel, of Huntington; two daughters, Michelle (Randal) Brown, of Huntington, and Heather (Matt) Eckert, of Andrews; two brothers, Barry (Linda) Hammel, of Warren, and Doug (Donna) Hammel, of Florida; two sisters, Diana (Lee) Deller, of Fremont, and Sally Bower, of Galveston; and nine grandchildren, Jarod Hammel, Jamon Hammel, Hayden Hammel, Isaac Brown, Emily Brown, Brandon Eckert, Nicole Eckert, Amara Eckert and Josie Eckert.
Calling is Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Richard Strick officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, in Huntington.
