Robert E. Lovellette, 80, of Decatur, and having family members in Roanoke, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital, in Decatur.
Mr. Lovellette served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He retired in 1993 from General Electric, in Fort Wayne, where he had been employed for 42 years.
He attended Union Chapel United Methodist Church, in rural Decatur. He was a member of American Legion Post 43, in Decatur, and a 20-year member of the post's color guard. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 1311 and Eagles Aerie 2653, both in Decatur, and the General Electric Quarter Century Club, in Fort Wayne.
He was born July 23, 1933, in Decatur to Harry D. and Pearl M. Fuelling Lovellette. He marred Ruby J. James on Dec. 17, 1955, in Willshire, OH. His wife preceded him in death on June 30, 2004.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia (Jim Ranly) Wefel and Lynn (Mark) Roeder, both of Decatur; two brothers, Donald (Nell) Lovellette, of Syracuse, and Ronald (Patricia) Lovellette, of Roanoke; four sisters, Rose Lovellette, Patricia Lovellette and Bonnie Dabbs, all of Fort Wayne, and Susie (John) Nuttle, of Ossian; and five grandchildren, Sarah Bailey, Zach Roeder, Lee Wefel, Jessica Roeder and Michaela Roeder.
A service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, in Decatur, with Rev. Ed Karges officiating. Calling will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Decatur Cemetery, with military services by American legion Post 43, of Decatur.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Adams County Community Foundation Cancer Fund or the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
